What is map_mpa?
map_mpa is an ongoing project that seeks to articulate the processes through which MPA spaces come about. map_mpa is an archaeological exploration of a built project through the reinterpretation of drawings, photographs, and sketches from the design process. The reconceptualization of these materials using animation, photography, collage, modeling, and other representational techniques produces something new. These new representations bring forward the artistic side of MPA, imagining what can emerge from the concepts behind a project without the restrictions of building a building.
By tracing how ideas evolve into realized projects, we discover that there are not only many different stories embedded within a project, but that there are also profound resonances between them. These discoveries allow for the interpretation of collective and sometimes unconscious processes that occur across projects.
